How it all ends

30 January 2019
‘They shall see his face…they shall reign forever and ever.’

In order to know how a story ends, we must read the last chapter. In Revelation 22, the final chapter of the Bible, we’re told what will be enjoyed by every saved child of God. First, we ‘shall see His face.’ One of the greatest joys of heaven is that we’ll see the face of Jesus, the One we love most. The Bible says: ‘Now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is’ (1 John 3:2 NIV). We will see Him, we will be like Him, and we will be with Him forever. What an incredible thought. 2) ‘And they shall reign forever and ever.’ Just as the exams we take qualify us to go out and make a living, the tests and trials of this life are qualifying us to graduate and reign with Christ in the next life. In the chapter before, we’re told that ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away’ (Revelation 21:4 NIV). That make it even more amazing to think of how our story will end. When we’re facing trials, pain, sickness, or grief, it can be a comfort to remember that one day we will never have to face those things again. Let’s keep our eyes on the prize. This life is the short story; the next life is the big story – seeing Jesus face to face, and reigning with Him forever.
