Breaking point

05 December 2018
‘Give all your worries to him, because he cares about you.’

Have you ever reached breaking point? That point where you’re so overwhelmed you feel like you just can’t cope. Today people are stressed out by their relationships, by their work, or by money. But we weren’t created to be stressed. We’re created to be completely dependent on God. The Bible says: ‘Give all your worries to him, because he cares about you.’ No problem we have is too small or too big to hand over to God. He cares about everything that we have to deal with. When we’re feeling overwhelmed and stressed, it can seem counterintuitive to stop and rest in God’s presence – we want to be busy and get through our to-do lists – but spending time with Him is exactly what God wants us to do. In the story of Mary and Martha, we see that while Martha is getting stressed with hospitality, Mary is spending time at Jesus’ feet. Jesus says to Martha, ‘You are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed – or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her’ (Luke 10:41-42 NIV). One of the positives of reaching breaking point is that it forces us to come to Him for guidance, for strength, and for direction. God says: ‘Come to me, all of you who are tired and have heavy loads, and I will give you rest. Accept my teachings and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit, and you will find rest for your lives. The burden that I ask you to accept is easy; the load I give you to carry is light’ (Matthew 11:28-30 NCV). Will you come to Him today?

What Now?

Take 30 minutes out of your day to just sit in God’s presence. Hand all your concerns over to Him and ask Him for His rest.
