Our life’s purpose

08 November 2018
‘For we are…created…for good works.’

The Bible says God ‘creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he does, the good work he has gotten ready for us to do, work we had better be doing’ (MSG). Before we decide on a career or what we’ll devote our lives to, we need to seek God for guidance. Nothing can take the place of knowing His will. If we don’t know it, we’re likely to spend our lives doing the wrong things. And even if we’re well-paid, have a good job, or succeed in what we’re doing, we’ll probably experience a feeling of emptiness and lack of fulfilment. God created each of us for a specific purpose. Our responsibility is to identify it. Here are four questions to ask ourselves when it comes to identifying our life’s purpose: 1) What am I searching for? All of us have a strong desire in our hearts; something that speaks to our deepest thoughts, longings, and feelings; something that sets our souls on fire. 2) Why was I created? We need to consider our unique mix of abilities, the relationships and resources available to us, our personal history, and the opportunities around us. 3) Do I believe in my potential? When we don’t believe in ourselves, we can get to the point where we don’t believe we can do anything God calls us to do, or even that God would want to use us in the first place. But He’s given us all gifts and skills, and He’ll equip us to do whatever He’s asking of us. 4) When should I start? We should be starting now. Once we discover our life’s purpose, we shouldn’t want to waste any time getting started on fulfilling it.

What Now?

If you’re not sure what God’s purpose for your life is, spend some time answering the four questions in the reading.
