Thy Kingdom Come - Archbishop Justin Welby

In 2016, the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu and I invited Anglicans worldwide to pray – between Ascension and Pentecost – for the renewing power of the Holy Spirit to empower us for evangelism – that friends and family, colleagues and neighbours would come to faith in Christ. What happened next was absolutely extraordinary – clearly a work of the God! In less than 3 years, Thy Kingdom Come has captured the imagination of millions of Christians in more than 114 countries who have joined in the chorus ‘Come Holy Spirit, Thy Kingdom Come!’

All of us know people whose lives would be completely different if they knew Jesus and so these ten days present an opportunity to pray in a concentrated manner, with our brothers and sisters around the world, for those God lays on our lives to encounter the life-transforming love of Christ.

The way to participate is very simple. To pray. There is no right or wrong way to do it – just simply pray for 5 people during these 11 days, wherever you are in the world, in whatever manner that is suitable for you. You can pray as an individual, as a family, as a church, or as all three – it does not matter how!

Just be assured that when you pray and bring these people before God, He will impact their lives and answer our prayers. For He cares deeply for them – from the moment they were knitted in their mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13).

I came to a living faith in Christ at University through the encouragement and prayers of my peers but what I learned later was that I had also been prayed for, every week, for 18 years by a close family friend – what an incredible gift! We must never underestimate the power of prayer. Who could you give this incredible gift of prayer to this Thy Kingdom Come?
